To learn swimming was there in my bucket list for long. My parents always told me not to go near water bodies as per them I might die as per the horoscope 🙄. But the biggest fear to come out of this was to learn swimming. Me and my friend Arvind decided to learn swimming. There was a healthy competition between both of us as we both were starting from zero.
Day 1 – Day10
We practiced the breath test. I could hold my breath for 60-80 sec. So I thought I am good enough in this part. Then we started practicing. It was really a nightmare at the start. The moment we were flipping our arms and legs, I was sinking. It was so harassing and utter disappointment at the start. We tried seeing so many YouTube videos. It was like 10 days doing the same thing without any significant changes in our swimming. We practiced for 1 hour everyday.
Day 10-20
Till day 15 I hardly saw any difference. This is the time, when I literally thought its not really cup of my tea. May be I am just wasting my time. I almost denied my friend that I will not go for practice anymore. Then I thought ‘why not the last dance ?’ That day I tried my level best, gave my all. I could see some improvement. That really triggered me to continue and keep trying.
Day 20-30
I was able to do 20 m lap. It was good to see my friend was also learning at same pace as me. After few days I could see the progress in increasing the lap from 20m to 50m/100m. All the practice we were doing was with single breath. Then we learnt how to use head to keep breathing while doing swimming. This was the most beautiful and challenging part.
The practice continued. We could literally go and swim easily anytime. I am not saying we became expert. But if any situation/danger comes if I need to survive from water bodies, I can swim and survive.
The Key things to take here from the post is – When I was almost at the verge of quitting , I did not. The greatest fear to come out of any fear is to face it. Winners never quit !! Quitters never win !!
