I want to pen down my thoughts of a beautiful world championship that is going on between Gukesh vs Ding . The moment when I am writing this blog, game is very evenly poised. There are commentary for almost all the sports, but hardly there was any for Chess. But thanks to chessbase, arranging such an amazing chess commentary. Itβs absolutely treat to watch the commentary of the chessbase. Samay being on panel is liking icing on the cake. Also I am astonished to see Samay has improved his chess a lot.
Can Ding defend the title ? Can Gukesh bite the bullet and become youngest world champion? We all know Ding was going through torrid time, battling mental health. While his rating was gradually waning , Gukesh winning the candidates was slowly creeping to become world number five. So when the tournament started, there was lot of hype that Gukesh being the favorite contender. The 1st game was actually a big blow to Gukesh. Ding really showing his class in the first match. Gukesh manages to pull a thrilling win on 3rd match before the rest day. Now we are at game 5, both at 2.5 points each. I will not go in technical details of each match π keeping the blog lucid.
The toughest part when these players have to face the post match conference. It is mind-boggling to see Gukesh being so calm, composed and replying gracefully. The question regarding the Carlsen mentioning Gukesh playing so badly in game number 1 was also handled elegantly. I have to watch the match after my office hours. I go directly to the replay of the live stream. I don’t go to the comments, as I don’t want the spoiler π But yes I cant watch for entire 4 hours, rather I watch the crunch moments.
Lets see how it tilts as the rest of the matches progresses. It seems to be neck to neck battle as of now. We hope we have new young world champion from India. I will have one more blog after the final match. Still nine matches from here. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Hope we cross the line of actual control and claim the championship (ignore my bad analogy π).
